. right now, that would be the romney campaign. new polling in battleground states tonight, the latest cnn/orc survey in ohio done entirely after the first debate, now showing a four point obama lead. that's a statistical tie. it is a significant change from the seven to ten point lead the president enjoyed before the debate. new polling as well from sienna college that shows a statistical tie in pennsylvania. that's based on surveys done both before and after the debate and nationally in gallup's daily tracking poll which covers october 2nd through the 8th, mitt romney now holds a two point edge. today, gallup shifted from registered to likely voters, which tends to favor republicans. that said, though, it is hard to find any evidence, any evidence that president obama escaped denver without at least some damage. the only question being how severe and how long-lasting. that seems hard to dispute. just as it's hard to dispute that prior to the debate, mr. romney was getting hammered in the polls. keeping them honest though, disputing or downplaying the obvious, that's what campaigns do on

rocky mountain, a rocky mountain poll showing obama 42%, romney, 42% among all voters. that is surprising, because just a few weeks ago romney was ahead. we rate arizona as leaning romney, and this poll was taken after the presidential debate that most people thought, even president obama thought that he didn't bring his a-game. so it is a little bit surprising that this poll shows obama slightly ahead of romney. >> yeah, at least it makes the contest more interesting and not predictable. so let's talk about tuesday's debate format. our candy crowley, she is going to be great, make that raddatz, we knew was going to be great. how is this going to be different? >> well, it is a town hall format, different than just the usual area, the candidates are speaking directly to the voters themselves. they're having to gauge or maybe you know, modify their answers based on the reaction, right? it is a lot tougher, it presents a lot more opportunities for mistakes. you remember, don, in 1992, president george h.w. bush looking down at his watch in a town hall format debate. it pr

that much, but we saw mitt romney gain some ground in polls, so how much now is riding on this debate? >> well, i mean this is the most important day of the election season. we have been saying that, fred, ever since -- well, ever since the election start, we saw mitt romney come out in that first debate and he defied all the critics and all the skeptics and he put on quite a show. and president obama had a very bad debate. even one of his senior advisors said today that he needs to do better. let's hear what he told candy crowley on the state of the union, what we can expect from president obama tuesday night. >> he knew when he walked off stage and he also knew when he watched the tape of that debate, that he's got to be more energetic, i think you'll see somebody that's more passionate about the problems that face the american people. >> candy crowley also had ed gillesp gillesp gillespie, mitt romney's adviser. >> the president can change his style, he can change his rhetoric, but he can't change his policies so that's what this election is about. >> this is going to be hugely imp
